What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are a totally new way to extend the length and thickness of your eyelashes. They are applied on a hair-by-hair basis to your own lashes for a totally natural look. It is a very enhancing beauty service and you do NOT need to use Mascara while wearing these Eyelash Extensions. They have a natural looking curve so there is no need to use eyelash curlers. It is a very careful and intense service that requires skill and precision. Once applied, these lashes are so natural looking it is often extremely difficult to tell even up close that you have extensions on. You wake up every morning with fabulous lashes!
What will I benefit from having lash extensions?
Lash extensions will provide a naturally fuller and longer mascara look, they are so lightweight you won’t be able to feel them! Lash extensions will replace the need for mascara and provide a completely low-maintenance makeup routine; they are semi-permanent and water resistant. Your lashes will appear longer, voluminous and flirty with a darker lash line! Lash extensions are customized for each client to enhance natural features and give a more youthful appearance.
What are the most common types of lash extensions?
There are three types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. At Lashes Eye Love we use the synthetic lash extension to ensure fewer allergic reactions. Size availability ranges from 6mm to 17mm. Once selected, the lashes are applied one at a time using a specially formulated, semi-permanent glue that will not irritate the eye nor damage the natural lash. However, since allergic reactions are possible, there are different types of glue based on one's sensitivity.
How long does it take to apply lash extensions?
Applying a full set of lashes takes about two hours, and can be maintained year-round with fill touch ups recommended every two to four weeks.
Everyone has different lashes, and depending on the condition of your own natural lashes, our Lash Artists can only go a certain length or thickness. (This is to ensure that your own lashes remain healthy.) For example, if your natural lashes are on the shorter, thinner side, you won't be able to get a crazy, dramatic Kim Kardashian look, because it won't last. It's better to start out with a thinner and short size if you aren't sure or it's your first time then next visit turn up the volume. Fro before to after you will see a signifiant enhancement with any style you choose. It’s easier to add more than to remove lashes!
What happens if glue gets in your eyes?
Since your eyes are shut the whole time lash extensions are being applied, no glue will ever get into your eye. To avoid any irritation, however, the first safety precaution you can take is to be sure that the glue is safe for your eyes and doesn't contain anything that can harm them, like formaldehyde. Shipping glues across the world often leads to a buildup of formaldehyde by the time they reach the salon.
This is why Lashes Eye Love uses medical-grade adhesive that is MADE IN THE USA in accordance with FDA recommendations for formaldehyde content. Although it is impossible to have an adhesive that is chemical free, we have taken great measures to ensure that our products we use are as safe and harmless as possible. The adhesive dries very soft on lashes, allowing the lashes to stay flexible, lightweight and bouncy just like your own lashes and the only difference you will experience is confidence!
Additionally, it's important to understand the difference between an allergic reaction and an infection. Our licensed and experienced Lash Artists will not let an infection occur, but if you’re allergic to the glue, you’re still going to be allergic -- this doesn’t mean the glue is inherently harmful.
Can you go blind?
No. Your Lash Artist is trained properly to apply the adhesive and lashes in a way that is completely harmless. Your eyes are closed the entire time of the procedure. No matter how bad an allergic reaction may get, you will never go blind. The worse case scenario is that you need to go to the eye doctor to get specific eye drops to treat an allergic reaction.
What happens when you cry?
If you experience any burning or discomfort during the procedure, causing your eyes to tear or making you cry, this is a huge red flag and you should certainly speak up. You may need to have your Lash Artist change the glue. Getting lash extensions should be a completely pain-free experience.
What are the pros and cons of wearing mink lashes like Beyoncé?
People want all different kinds of looks -- some people go for drama, and some opt for something more natural. The benefits of mink lash extensions are that they are more feathery looking and lighter in general, so they put less pressure on your lashes. Mink lashes also come at a higher cost.
What is the difference between false lashes and eyelash extensions?
The major difference between traditional false lashes and lash extensions are when compared side-by-side, lash extensions offer a very natural look. The false lashes are generally “strip lashes” which multiple synthetic lashes attached on one pre-made strip or individual "flare lashes" . The strips or individual flare lashes are adhered with a temporary adhesive onto the skin and lasts several hours.
How often do you need to get lash extensions redone?
Lash extensions last through a full growth cycle of natural eyelashes, typically six to eight weeks. That said, because each person’s lash growth is somewhat variable (just hair growth), I suggest light lash maintenance every two to four weeks to maintain a full look. With a commitment to a regular maintenance program, many of our happy clients keep their eyelash extensions year round!
Do lash extensions fall out over a certain period of time?
It varies from client to client. Eyelash extensions will stay on your lashes for your remaining natural lash life.
There are three phases to be exact: Growth, Resting and Shedding. Before a natural lash even falls out at maturity a new lash has already started its growing phase in its place. This process is nonstop, with people shedding anywhere from 1 to 5 natural eyelashes each day. This means that you could lose 1 to 5%. The loss of eyelash extensions are more noticeable due to them being thicker and darker than your natural lashes. These lashes can stay on up to 90 days with proper after-care and with monthly maintenance. However, general after-care will affect how long the extensions last. We recommend a touch-up every two to four weeks.
Your lashes might fall out if you rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions, which is a big no-no. This can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes. But if you avoid these habits, your lashes should stay intact.
Can you shower or swim right away? Are there products you should absolutely avoid?
Keep water away from your lashes for the first 12 to 24 hours after application or fill touch ups. Water can weaken the adhesive before it is set and cause lashes to fall off. The after-care varies depending on the glue used. For instance, with glue for sensitive eyes, oil-based products or makeup removers around the eye area are not recommended. Using water-proof mascara on the extensions is not recommended for any type of glue, as it is hard to remove and can actually pull off the lashes prematurely when trying to take it off.
Is it okay to also wear mascara?
If you are planning to wear mascara in addition to the extensions, only use it on the tips of the extensions and with a very light hand. This will be enough to give your eyes that "pop" along with the extensions. Using mascara at the base of the extensions will get very clumpy.
What questions should you ask when searching for a reputable salon or professional?
Because of the sensitive nature of the lashes and the surrounding area, finding someone who is certified to apply the lashes is definitely a must. Professionals use professional products and have been properly trained to apply the lashes without damaging your natural lashes or more importantly, your eyes.
Just like you would with a hairstylist, research who you want to go to and how long they have been working as a technician. Look at before-and-after photos, read reviews and always make sure they are licensed and lash-certified.
Can the Extensions be removed?
Yes, they can easily be removed by your Lash Artist. Please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own as you could damage your natural lashes this way.
How soon before my special event can I get my lashes done?
We recommend at least 2 days before your scheduled event. As with any beauty enhancing treatment, it may take time to adjust to your new look.
Our natural lashes have a growth cycle in which the lashes regrow. Eyelash extensions last from 2-5 weeks as part of the normal lash cycle. How long the eyelash extension will last depends on your own natural eyelash growth and how well you take care of the extensions. The eyelash extensions fall out together with your natural lashes. A healthy person losses between 1-5 eyelashes every day, the loss of eyelash extensions are more noticable due to them being thicker and darker than your natural lashes. Touch ups are done to replace any naturally falling lashes and keep your lashes looking their best.
What do I do during the eyelash application?
You will be lying down on a relaxing massage bed while we apply your lashes individually by hand.
Each extension is applied to each one of your individual lashes with non-irritating medical glue.
How do I know what length to get?
You can talk with your Lash Artist before she/he starts the lash application. She/he will let you know the styles and types of lashes she/he recommends. You can change styles at any time in the life of your lashes.
Who shouldn't get eyelash extensions?
Almost anyone can enjoy eyelash extensions, but if one or more of the following conditions applies to you, you may not be a good candidate for eyelash extensions:
•You rub your eyes frequently. If you rub your eyes frequently due to allergies such as hay fever, or if rubbing your eyes is just a habit, you may not be able to wear eyelash extensions.
•You are sick or have allergies. If you have a cold, sinus or allergy infection, please do not get eyelash extensions! They will not last a long time due to irritation and secretions from the eye area.
•You are in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
•You have highly sensitive skin. If you experience irritation around the eye area after using skin care of makeup, eyelash extensions may not suit you.
•You suffer from unexplained hair loss.
•You suffer from healing troubles
•Your natural eyelashes are very curly. If your natural lashes are very curly you are definitely not a good candidate for eyelash extensions. Curly eyelashes tend to shorten the eyelash extensions wear time. Generally with curly eyelashes, extensions may only last up to three days before they start to lift.
•You have no natural eyelashes. A person who does not have any natural eyelashes cannot wear eyelash extensions because there is no where to place them. Eyelash extensions must be placed on the natural eyelash and not directly on the skin. Consider using strip eyelash instead.
The rule of thumb to enjoy and maintain eyelash extensions is, “The less you touch them, the longer they will last!”. It’s also important to keep the eye area very clean and not to apply eyeliner, eyeshadow, or any eye makeup close to the eyelashes.
